As you may have noticed, I have removed the Ads and replaced them with image links to books on Amazon that I think people that visit these forums will find useful.

I personally own the Visual C# 2008 book and I have to tell you it is maybe the best programming book that I ever purchased. It is interesting to read, packed with detailed tutorials on all most of us need to know in order to write programs in C#.

Over the years I've purchased many programming books and most of them are disappointing in some way, and since they can be expensive to buy, it pays to seek out recommendations before you spend your money.

Some books sound great when you read the blurb on the cover but end up being a complete waste of money such as a book I bought on coding dynamic websites. It was all based on frameworks. But I am into coding with the base language and I don't want to hide it behind a framework.

I was lucky that my first book purchase for C# was a good purchase, and I don't need any more books on it now. Since I was so impressed with this book under the Wrox label, I picked out a couple more for web coding such as PHP, MySQL, XHTML and CSS which should interest many of you guys that visit this website.

For beginners or intermediate web developers, these 3 books should be highly useful additions to your bookshelf IMO.

If you are wondering what you would use C# for, it is great for coding PC-based apps for pulling content from the web, processing that content and then uploading to your sites. Just one example. And you can download MS C# Express (which is surprisingly powerful and feature rich) for free from the web to produce the Apps (you don't need Visual Studio).

I don't own the PHP and Web programming book, since like I said, I already purchased a ton of books on these subjects before and hopefully my gut instinct on these recommended books is correct in that it will save you from needing to buy extra books to fill in the gaps.
