RE: Neds Projects
A new project is the offline business.
If I lived in an English-speaking nation, I would definitely try and provide Internet business services to the local small businesses such as a directory, web pages that advertise their business and provide discount coupons and blogs. So many times I read about how you can make say 10x more money with this business model rather than operating purely online. Also, it is likely to be more fun where you get to leave your basement, change out of your underwear and T-shirt and log off the computer to actually go outside the house and meet new people. To get around my main problem of not being fluent in the local lingo, I have acquired a property that is a combination of a house and former diner. So I can now think about building an offline business. Also I have many friends that can help me out by pretending to be customers, helping with construction and even partnering in the business. So I will look for ways to turn this place into a thriving business that combines offline and online aspects. The most likely seems to be a cafe/bar with a prominent web site providing information and blogging about what is happening. Also, I want to think of ways to sell merchandise connected with the business such as mugs and T-shirts featuring the brand. Ideally the advertising and word of mouth recommendations will always ensure that the place is packed with the most interesting and highest profit producing customers. So I need to think of a way to handle this. Maybe use a points system that is based on their customer score that can prioritize their position in the queue? Elements to make this work are: coolness factor, fulfilling a need, rarity, addictiveness, feeling of loss if you don't return, ego boost, membership points, circle of friends, new experiences, freshness factor, being different, adding an area of excitement to your life, experiencing new things etc. So I need to do research on the ideas by asking a variety of people what they think about it and checking out all the pros and cons of the local eating/drinking places. Then I should be able to formulate a plan for what would be popular and profitable. Next I should think about how to measure performance of the business and optimize it over time. All good fun!
